Disclaimer
VaeVictis OS is free software, made available free of charge by one private person, outside any commercial activity. It comes without warranty, and no protection it offers is guaranteed. Please read this before you download or install it.

No warranty
VaeVictis OS is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. It is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, either expressed or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose (GPL-3.0, section 15). The entire risk as to the quality and performance of the software is with you.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the author and the contributors are not liable for any damage, including data loss, loss of privacy, security incidents, hardware damage or any other direct or indirect damage, arising from the use of or the inability to use VaeVictis OS, its tools, its packages, its documentation or this website (GPL-3.0, sections 16 and 17). Nothing on this page limits a liability that the law does not allow to limit.
No security guarantee
- Every protection described on this site and in the project’s documentation is designed to reduce a risk. None of them is guaranteed to work in every case: software has bugs, new attacks appear, and a configuration can be wrong.
- The code has not been audited by an independent third party. Much of it was written with the help of AI assistants, under the direction of the maintainer, who is not a professional programmer.
- Known weaknesses and limits are listed in the threat model, the changelog and the notes for 1.0 and 1.0.1. Other, unknown weaknesses may exist.
Not for critical use
Do not rely on VaeVictis OS where a failure could put people at risk, or cause serious financial or legal harm: for example if you are a journalist, an activist or a source facing a capable adversary. For those cases use systems built and reviewed for them, such as Tails or Qubes OS, and get expert advice.
Your responsibility
- Verify your download (checksum and signature) before you use it.
- Back up your data. The installer erases the disk or partitions you select. A forgotten disk passphrase cannot be recovered.
- Try it first from the USB stick or in a virtual machine; keep the system updated; read the threat model.
- You decide whether VaeVictis OS is suitable for your needs, and you use it at your own risk.
No support obligation
This is a one-person, best-effort project, in maintenance mode: no new features, security fixes only when possible. There is no obligation to provide support, updates or fixes, and no response time. Only the latest release is maintained. The project may be discontinued at any time; if that happens, the plan is to publish a notice with the commands to remove the VaeVictis APT repository, after which the system keeps receiving Debian’s updates.
Third-party software and information
The system is made of Debian packages and other software, each under its own licence and without any warranty from this project. Services you choose to use (VPN providers, websites) are under their own terms. The information on this site is general information, not professional security, legal or technical advice for your situation.
